The Silver Coast, where we have villas and apartments for sale, is a region with
many colours: the green of the vineyards, the blue of the sea and the golden sands
of the beaches. It’s a territory full of intense luminosity where the sea coast
and the countryside make a special double par to offer a pleasant climate all year
around.
People
The people of the Western Region carry with them some traces blended by the ancestral
inheritance of northern, predominantly Celtic peoples, Phoenicians from the South
and above all Romans and Arabs.
The blend of these ancient cultures has resulted in a tradition of openness to other
nationalities, and in the hospitality in which the Western region takes great pride.
Coastline
The region is privileged in several aspects, one of those is the wonderful seaside,
where the combination of sandbeaches, cliffs and villages form a coastline with
a wide variety of panoramic views and places to explore and enjoy.
Starting with Praia Norte just above Nazare, we go down to the rocky cliffs of Sitio
with it´s amazing views over Nazare town and beach. Nazare with is own beach is
popular in the summer and caractaristic because of the fishermen drying their freshly
caught fish in specially made frames.
From there we go down to Praia de Salgado, known for it´s roughness and extreme
beauty.
Arriving in Sao Martinho the seaside loses some of it´s roughness. The natural bay
of Sao Martinho offers excelent family conditions, a calm beach with calm waters.
From Sao Martinho to Foz do Arelho, using the atlantic road you´ll see an extraordinary
landscape in both directions. In Foz Do Arelho the Obidos lagoon starts . This Lagoon
is one of the most beautiful attractions of the west coast in Portugal and has an
intrecate habitate, but it is mostly the seashell fish that give the importance
to the fauna in this area. By the end of the Middle Age, the Lagoon had an extension
reaching the Óbidos village, but the evolution of the coastline, at a constant mutation,
has substantially limited its perimeter. Still, the Lagoon has an appreciatable
extension and is an exceptional place for various water sport activities, such as:
rowing, sailing, kite and windsurfing.
Near the Lagoon, the Foz do Arelho beach is a place where nature offers exceptional
therapeutic qualities and an extensive strand. For lovers of surf this is on of
the most attractive beaches. In the small quay, you can buy all the various shell
animals that the Lagoon has to offer. Nice cafes and restaurants line the beach
and visiters can appreciate different fish dishes like fritted eels, cockles and
the famous “Lagoon stew”.
In the South side, the beaches of Lapinha and Rio Cortiço in Bom Sucesso are equally
exceptional places to spend the summer. The skill of men allied with nature allow
the creation of a modern resort, with a spectacular golf course with 18 holes, that
is one of the best of the whole country with a sea view.
Going down further south we reach Baleal and Peniche . On the North side, the Lagide
beach is the perfect place for the practice of surf and body board all year around.
On the south side Baleal beach has an extensive beach with calm waters, a surfschool,
tennis courts, pools, discotec and a hippic-centre.
In Peniche you can observe more than two kilometres of soft white sand with an area
of small dunes. These beaches are pleasant for walking, swimming, sunbathing or
just viewing the sea.
The road to the Carvoeiro Cape, is an unforgettable site seeing with rare scenery
and rock formations, designed by the sea and the action of time.
Peniche, land of fishermen, has a magnificent sea gastronomy. There is excellent
fresh fish, fish stew and the famous “sweated” lobster.
This coastal town has a fortress with a museum and the workshops of bobbin laces.
The new recreation port is the base of sport nautical enterprises, which on the
Berlengas Islands have a fish and diving sanctuary.
The Berlenga Islands have an incredible natural scenery with calm and crystalline
waters and because of that the diving is one of the most elected sports activities.
On the island you can also visit the XVII century Fortress of S. João Baptista,
a jewel of the military Portuguese architecture. The Berlengas archipelago, Natural
Reserve, is served by several enterprises that make the connection between the islands
and Peniche.
A vast sandbeach of two kilometres extends between Peniche and Consolação, known
by the name of Supertubos, this is a spectacular place for surf and body board practice.
