Abruzzo is beautiful and mostly undiscovered by the Brit's. That means that property
is very good value, but more importantly the region is genuinely Italian. It hasn't
been diluted by any English culture or cuisine, unlike the more northern parts of
Italy.
Abruzzo is also set in wonderful natural surroundings. You have the mountains on
one side and the Adriatic sea on the other. You can ski, go rock climbing or para-gliding,
hiking or sailing. You can be in Rome in a couple of hours, in Florence, Pisa, Bologna,
or Venice in not much more, or you can jump on either a plane or a fast boat and
be in Croatia in no time.
The older property is mostly medieval, and therefore has incredible character features
like vaulted ceilings, stone staircases and original terra cotta flooring that simply
can't be found in the UK, or indeed in the more modern buildings in Italy.
This region has four provinces: Chieti, L'Aquila, Pescara, and Teramo and a terrain
stretching from the coast to the mountains. Abruzzo is also famous for its national
parks in Abruzzo, Gran Sasso and the mountain of Laga and Maiella.
The coast of Abruzzo has over 50 km of beaches. There is a beach to suit every taste,
ranging from large sandy beaches with bars, restaurants, swimming pools and children's
areas to quiet, easily-accessible coves.
The rocky mountains of the Apaninnes in the west give way to stretches of sandy
white beach in the eaSt It's about a 90-minute drive from the beach to the mountain
top. Central and western Abruzzo has a lifestyle that has not changed for centuries.
Here you'll find ancient beechwood forests inhabited
by wolves and bears, century-old
pathways still used by shepherds. The ancient castles now guard nothing but deserted
stretches of wilderness where the only sign of life might be a soaring eagle. To
the east, the scenery changes and rolling hills give way to kilometres of white
sandy beach.
Located in the central western area of Italy and bathed by the Adriatic Sea, the
Abruzzi territory has in the richness of its natural resources its own uniqueness:
from the long golden beaches to the impervious mountain zones of the Gran Sasso,
from natural lakes to the celebrated National Park. A harsh territory, occupied
by long tracts of forest with its flora and fauna intact. Popular ancestral traditions
exist alongside modern structures for hospitality. Abruzzo’s central position allows
easy access to all parts of Italy.
Abruzzo has many examples of art and architecture. There are many art treasures
churches, and hermitages that date back many years. Most of the old villages have
priceless art and historical treasures. These treasures are often exhibited during
the various festivals and fairs there are in Abruzzo each year.
