Tenerife
is the largest island in the Archipelago of the Canary
Islands (Isla Canarias). The Canaries Archipelago
consists of seven large and six smaller islands based in the
Atlantic Ocean, lying some 100km off the north west coast
of Africa (Morocco
and Western Sahara) and about 1,100km from the Spanish mainland
(Cadiz). The Canary Islands are split into two Spanish provinces;
The westerly Islands of Tenerife, La
Palma, Gomera
and Hierro from
the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (chief town Santa Cruz)
while the eastern islands of Gran
Canaria, Fuerteventura
and Lanzarote
from the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (chief town
Las Palmas).
Tenerife measures 130km from east to west and 90km from north
to south coast (a total area of 2057 sq km). It has a population
of around 650,000 with another 20,000 on La Gomera, a small
and largely unspoilt island just off the south west coast.

Tenerife enjoys constant good weather all year round.
The north of the island is a topical paradise, full of
palm trees and banana plantations and breathtakingly beautiful
landscape. Inland, there are traditional rural towns,
hillside villages and extraordinarily landscapes formed
from the twisted lava rock of the largest mountain in
Spain, Mount Tiede. |
The popular resort of Playa de Las Americas, is known for
its nightlife and has several beaches, some made are made
up from volcanic black sand. With the variety of shops, bars
and restaurants it is definitely the pulsating heart of the
Island.
Tenerife has the lowest temperature difference between winter
and summer than anywhere else in the world. The minimum annual
average is approximately 15C and the maximum annual average
is approximately 24C.
Los
Cristianos is a neighbour of Playa de las Americas
and is a little quieter. It is only forty five minutes
transfer from Sur Reina Sofia Airport.
El Medano is a small coastal resort,
in the south of Tenerife, only 7km from Sur Reina Airport
and 20km from the main southern resorts, Playa de las
Americas and Los Cristianos.
Playa de las Americas is Tenerife 'hot
spot' most famous for its black beaches and nightlife.
Built in the late 1960's it is virtually not Canarian
at all.
Puerto
de la Cruz is an old fishing port and is one
of Spain's major attractions, although remarkably it
remains unscathed. There are bars and restaurant, shops
and a casino. With its traditional Canarian style homes
and fishermen landing their catches it really is charming
and quaint. |

La
Orotava, an old town in the north of Tenerife has
a population of over 36,000 and lies on the banana plantation
in the valley Orotava. With it's 1,000 hectares of cultivated
vineyards in this valley of extraordinary beauty it stands
at the foot of Mount Teide and extends until the sea.
Los Realejos is situated in the north under
the slopes of the great Las Cañadas del Teide mountain
range. With a population of around 32,5000, it has grown in
importance and population and is now classed as one of Tenerife's
cities.

Santa
Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife and
with a population of over 200,000 inhabitants is the second
most populated city in the Canary Islands.
Los Gigantes is situated on the west
coast of Tenerife and is named after the imposing cliffs
(the Giants).
Chayofa is located in the south of Tenerife,
situated 300 metres above sea level, this beautiful village
has some amazing panoramic views over the hills of Tenerife.
Las Galletas is a typical example of
a Canarian village, with its narrow streets and little
squares filled with restaurants and cafes |
Adeje
is a wonderful municipality that is located in the south of
Tenerife, situated close to Playa de Las Americas and Los
Cristianos.
Costa del Silencio is a quiet and peaceful
resort and is adajacent to the lovely resort of Chayofa.
Fanabe, located in the south of Tenerife,
in the Playa de Las Americas region of Tenerife, was intended
to attract the upmarket tourist clientele to the island.
Golf
del Sur is a large golf complex situated in the
south of Tenerife.
Masca, in the north west of Tenerife,
is a picturesque village located in an imposing gorge.
It is thought to be the prettiest village in all of Tenerife
with cobbled stone buildings that look out to the beautiful
green vegetation.
Los Abrigos is a small, traditional Canarian
fishing village located in the south of Tenerife in between
El Medano and Golf del Sur. |

Teresitas
located just to the north of Santa Cruz, is a small beach
resort that is perfect for families with children.
Amarilla Golf is the older of the golf complexs
in the South of Tenerife, close to the Golf del Sur complex.
Garachico
was originally Tenerife's capital. The modest fishing village
has little cottages and large town houses that line the small
cobbled streets.
Playa Paraiso is a tourist area, located
within a few minutes of the popular tourist resorts, Los Cristianos
and Playa de Las Americas in the south of Tenerife. The whole
resort is mainly made up of four high rise hotels apartment
blocks.
Callao
Salvaje
is a small town with a mixture of residents and tourists.
It is situated in the south of Tenerife, just a few miles
west of the popular resorts, Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
