Southern Italy: International services operate to Rome, the capital, Naples and Palermo on Sicily in the South of Italy.

By Road and Rail
In the North of Italy major roads and railways provide excellent links to cities all over Europe. Transport services in the North of Italy are very efficient, with motorways and railways running down both coasts and across the area's main east to west axis at the foot of the Alps.
Milan, Verona and Bologna are the key transport hubs, while Florence forms the focus of links to the south.

In the South of Italy transport links are generally slower, particularly inland and on the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

Coastal road and rail links are good, however, especially those linking Rome and Naples, the region's main transport hubs. Two trans-Apennine motorways offer the quickest cross-country routes.

By Boat
Ferries operate to Sicily from Naples, Villa San Giovanni and Reggio di Calabria. Ferries run to Sardinia from several mainland ports, mainly Genoa and Livorno. For ferries between
Sicily and Sardinia contact Tirrenia Ferries (Tel : (+39) 68 99965, www.tirrenia.it). For ferries to Sicily contact SNAV, (Tel : (+39) 081 428 5555, www.snav.it).
